Martin Denny (10 April 1911 ‒ 2 March 2005) was an American piano-player and composer best known as the "father of exotica". In a long career that saw him performing well into his 80s, he toured the world popularizing his brand of lounge music which included exotic percussion, imaginative rearrangements of popular songs, and original songs that celebrated Tiki culture.

Exotica is the first album by Martin Denny, released in 1957. It contained Denny's most famous song, "Quiet Village", and spawned an entire genre bearing its name. It was recorded in Webley Edwards' studio (not, as often reported, the Aluminum Dome at Henry J. Kaiser's Hawaiian Village Complex) in Waikiki in December 1956. The album topped Billboard's charts in 1959.
Tracklist: "Quiet Village" (Les Baxter) – "Return to Paradise" (Dimitri Tiomkin, Ned Washington) – "Hong Kong Blues" (Hoagy Carmichael) – "Busy Port" (Baxter) – "Lotus Land" (Cyril Scott) – "Similau" (Arden Clar, Harry Coleman) – "Stone God" (Baxter) – "Jungle Flower" (Baxter) – "China Nights" (Shina No Yoru) (Takeoka) – "Ah Me Furi" (Gil Baumgart) – "Waipo" (Francis Brown) – "Love Dance" (Baxter).

Exotica Volume II was the second album by Martin Denny, released in 1958.
Tracklist: "Soshu Night Serenade" – "Island of Dreams" (Laine, Denny) – "Japanese Farewell Song (Sayonara)" (Yoshda, Morgan) – "Singing Bamboos" (Madeline Lamb) – "The Queen Chant (E Lili U E)" (John Kaladana) – "Wedding Song" (Ke Kali Ne Au) (Charles E. King) – "Escales" (Jacques Ibert) – "When First I Love" (Denny) – "August Bells" (Gil Baumgart, Denny) – "Bacoa" (Les Baxter) – "Ebb Tide" (Robert Maxwell) – "Rush Hour in Hong Kong" (Abram Chasino).
