1958 : Chuck Willis, American blues, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll singer and songwriter, born Harold Willis, died during surgery of peritonitis in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 30. He had suffered from stomach ulcers for many years.

1962 : Stu Sutcliffe, Scottish-born artist and musician, born Stuart Fergusson Victor Sutcliffe, died of aneurysm, which caused bleeding in the right ventricle of his brain, in Hamburg, West Germany, at the age of 21. (The Beatles - original bassist)

1979 : Nino Rota, Italian composer, pianist, conductor and academic, born Giovanni Rota, died from Congestive heart failure, in Rome, Italy, at the age of 67.

1992 : Sam Kinison, American stand-up comedian and actor, associated with the Los Angeles rock music scene, born Samuel Burl Kinison, died in a car accident in Needles, California, at the age of 38.

1998 : Eddie O’Jay, Cleveland radio disc jockey and pioneer of black radio, born Edward O. Jackson, died of a heart attack at the age of 73. His exact birth date is not known. The "The O'Jays" took their name in tribute to him.

 

2003 : Noel Fox, American bass singer, born Noel Peter Fox, died after surgery following a series of strokes, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 63. (The Oak Ridge Boys /1969–72 - bass singer)
