1963 : Paul Hindemith, German-born composer, violist, violinist, teacher and conductor, died from pancreatitis in Frankfurt at the age of 68.

1971 : Max Steiner, Austrian-born composer of music for theatre and films, born Maximilian Raoul Steiner, died of congestive heart in Hollywood, California, at the age of 83.

1976 : Freddie King, American blues guitarist and singer, born Frederick Christian (probably), died from stomach ulcers and acute pancreatitis in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 42.

1983 : Dennis Wilson, American rock and roll musician, born Dennis Carl Wilson, drowned in Marina del Rey, California, at the age of 39. He had been drinking all day and in the afternoon he dived in the very cold water to recover items he had thrown overboard at the marina from his yacht three years prior.
