1986 : Dick James, English music publisher and singer, born Leon Isaac Vapnick, died of a heart attack in London at the age of 65.

2003 : Mongo Santamaria, Afro-Cuban Latin jazz percussionist and rumba quinto master, born Ramón Santamaría Rodríguez, died in Miami, Florida, at the age of 80.

1911 : Gian Carlo Menotti, Italian-American composer and librettist, died in a hospital in Monte Carlo, Monaco, at the age of 95.

2009 : Dewey Martin, Canadian rock drummer, born Walter Milton Dwayne Midkiff, died in Van Nuys, California, at the age of 68. No cause of death was determined, but it is believed he died of natural causes. (Buffalo Springfield)
