1782 : Johann Christian Bach, German composer of the Classical era, son of Johann Sebastian Bach, died in London at the age of 46.

Johann Christian Bach

1953 : Hank Williams, American singer-songwriter and musician, born Hiram King Williams, died of a heart attack in the back seat of a Cadillac in Oak Hill, West Virginia, while traveling to a concert in Ohio, at the age of 29. The official cause of his death was "insufficiency of the right ventricle of the heart" but it was also obvious that he had been severely beaten and kicked in the groin recently.

1984 : Alexis Korner aka "Father of British Blues", French-born blues musician and radio broadcaster, born Alexis Andrew Nicholas Koerner, died of lung cancer in Westminster, London, at the age of 55.

1991 : Buck Ram, American songwriter, composer, arranger, manager and producer, born Samuel Ram, died of natual causes at the age of 73.

1995 : Ted Hawkins, American singer-songwriter, died of a stroke in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 58.

1997 : Townes Van Zandt, American singer-songwriter, born John Townes Van Zandt, died in Smyrna, Tennessee, at the age of 52. The official cause of death was cardiac arrhythmia, but this had in fact been caused by heavy alcohol abuse and irregular efforts to detox.

2013 : Patti Page, Americant raditional pop singer, born Clara Ann Fowler, died in Encinitas, California, at the age of 85. She had been suffering from heart and lung disease.
