1969 : Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, born Lewis Brian Hopkins Jones, is found dead in his swimming pool in Hartfield, Sussex, England, at the age of 27. The death is ruled accidental, although Jones had high levels of alcohol and barbiturates in his blood.

1971 : Jim Morrison of The Doors, born James Douglas Morrison, is found dead in his bathtub, in Paris, France, at the age of 27. No autopsy was performed, and while drugs were suspected, the official cause was "heart attack induced by respiratory problems". The exact cause of his death is still disputed.

1972 : Mississippi Fred McDowell, American Hill country blues singer and guitar player, born Fred McDowell, died of cancer in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 68.

1986 : Rudy Vallée, American singer, actor, bandleader and entertainer, died of cancer in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, at the age of 84.

2007 : Boots Randolph, American musician and saxophonist, born Homer Louis Randolph III, died after suffering a brain hemorrhage, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 80.

2008 : Colin Cooper, British singer and multi-instrumentalist, born Colin Francis Richard Cooper, died of cancer at the age of 68. (The Climax Blues Band - founding member, saxophone, vocals)
