1982 : Art Pepper, American alto saxophonist and clarinetist, born Arthur Edward Pepper, Jr., died of a stroke in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 56.

1996 : Ella Fitzgerald, American jazz vocalist, known also as the "Queen of Jazz", died at the age of 79 in her home in Beverly Hills, California.

2014 : Casey Kasem, American radio personality and voice actor, born Kemal Amin Kasem, died at St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington, at the age of 82. He had been diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in October 2013.
