1929 : Pinetop Smith, American boogie-woogie style blues pianist, born Clarence Smith, died from a gunshot wound in a dance-hall fight in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 24. Sources differ as to whether he was the intended recipient of the bullet.
Note: No photographs of Smith are known to exist. Some YouTube videos of his music circulate with mistaken photos.

2002 : Marshall Leib, American rock musician and producer, born Marshall Philip Leibovitz, died of a heart attack in Northridge, California, at the age of 63. (The Teddy Bears)
