1827 : Ludwig van Beethoven, German composer and pianist, in Vienna, Austria at the age of 56. There is dispute about the cause of his death. Two factors based on evidence are 1. significant liver damage and 2. traces of lead poisoning by excessive doses of lead-based treatments.

1973 : Noël Coward, English playwright, composer, director, actor and singer, born Noël Peirce Coward, died of heart failure at his home in Firefly Estate, Jamaica, at the age of 73.

1976 : Duster Bennett, Welsh blues singer and musician born Anthony Bennett, died in a car accident in Warwickshire at the age of 29.

1995 : Eric Wright aka Eazy-E, American rapper, born Eric Lynn Wright, died of complications from AIDS in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 31. (N.W.A.)

1999 : Ananda Shankar, Bengali musician best known for fusing Western and Eastern musical styles, died at the age of 56.

2002 : Randy Castillo, American drummer, born Randolpho Francisco Castillo, died of cancer at the age of 51. (Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue)
