1971 : Karl King, American march music bandmaster and composer, born Karl Lawrence King, died of acute diverticulitis in Fort Dodge, Iowa, at the age of 80.

1986 : O'Kelly Isley, Jr., American singer, died of a heart attack in Alpine, New Jersey, at the age of 48. He was suffering from cancer. (The Isley Brothers)

1995 : Selena Quintanilla-Pérez aka Selena, American singer-songwriter, fashion designer and entrepreneur, born Selena Quintanilla, was murdered in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 23.

1996 : Jeffrey Lee Pierce, American singer, songwriter and guitarist, died from a brain hemorrhage in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 37. He was HIV positive, while also suffering from cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis at the time of his death. (Gun Club)
