1840 : Niccolò Paganini, Italian violinist, violist, guitarist and composer, died from internal hemorrhaging in Nice, France, at the age of 57.

1997 : Willie Woods, American guitarist and songwriter, died from lung cancer in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 60. (Junior Walker & The All Stars)

2003 : Luciano Berio Italian composer, noted for his experimental work and his pioneering work in electronic music, died in a hospital in Rome at the age of 77.

2011 : Gil Scott-Heron, American soul and jazz poet, musician, and author, born Gilbert Scott-Heron, died after becoming ill upon returning from a European trip, in New York City, at the age of 62. The cause of his death has yet to be announced.
