1977 : Goddard Lieberson, president of Columbia Records (1956/71&1973/75) and composer, died of cancer in New York City at the age of 66.

1989 : John Cipollina, died from chronic emphysema in San Francisco, California, at the age of 45. (Quicksilver Messenger Service - lead guitar)

1996 : Jimmy Rowles, American jazz pianist, vocalist, and composer, born James George Hunter, died from cardiovascular disease in Burbank, Los Angeles County, California, at the age of 77.

1997 : Jeff Buckley, American singer-songwriter and guitarist, son of Tim Buckley, born Jeffrey Scott Buckley, died by accidental drowning while swimming in Wolf River in Tennessee at the age of 30. The autopsy showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in his system.

2005 : Oscar Brown Jr. American singer, songwriter, playwright, poet, civil rights activist, and actor, died in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 78.
