1980 : Carl Radle, American bass guitarist, born Carl Dean Radle, died from a kidney infection, exacerbated by the effects of alcohol and narcotics, at the age of 37. (Derek and the Dominos)

1993 : Sun Ra (legal name Le Sony'r Ra), jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, poet and philosopher, born Herman Poole Blount, died from pneumonia in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 79.
