2001 : Sil Austin, American jazz saxophonist, born Sylvester Austin, died of prostate cancer at the age of 71.

2005 : Barry Cowsill, American musician, became a victim of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the age of 50. His last communication was on September 1. His body was found on the 28th of December. A tree in a New Orleans park was found with a brass plaque that says, "In honor of Barry Cowsill, who died a true genius on the levee, Sept. 2, 2005." Barry's necklace was wrapped around it. His sister believes he put up a memorial to himself and committed suicide by walking into the water. (The Cowsills)

2005 : R. L. Burnside, American blues singer, songwriter and guitarist, born Robert Lee Burnside, died in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 78. His health had been declining since heart surgery in 1999.

2008 : Jerry Reed, American country music singer, guitarist, songwriter and actor, born Jerry Reed Hubbard, died of complications from emphysema in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 71.

2012 : Hal David, American lyricist, born Harold Lane David, died in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 91.
