1907 : Edvard Grieg, Norwegian composer and pianist, born Edvard Hagerup Grieg, died in Bergen after a long period of illness at the age of 64.

1990 : Irene Dunne, American film actress and singer, born Irene Marie Dunn, died at her home in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 91.

1991 : Dottie West, American country music singer and songwriter, born Dorothy Marie Marsh, died in a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 58. She died during her third operation for internal injuries sustained during a car accident few days earlier
